Film Feelings

Watching clips describing what films mean to various actors and actresses - on their BIG night. The
Academy is handing out Oscar tonight. Like the movie memory clips of Reese Witherspoon, Robert Downey, Morgan Freeman to name a few - I searched my brain to try and put words to the feelings I have for their art.

Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman recalled the first films they saw. I cannot remember my first. There are sweet memories of my entire family piled into the baby blue station wagon with pillows, blankets and Mom's homemade popcorn in a paper shopping bag. We'd go to a local drive-in theater... but, for the life of me I don't know each movie.  Oh, wait - I believe one time it was to see Cat Ballou. Oh geesh!

As a teenager, I'd walk with girlfriends to our downtown theater, and sometimes stay for the movie... sometimes NOT.

How have these cinematic experiences made me feel? What do I adore about them? Without sounding dramatic {which would be apropos for a post about acting}, or silly even - movies carry me to another time and place. Movies bring emotions front and center. Movies open up experiences, even though fictitious, for things you would otherwise never get to do. You can travel to another place, another time, to a world that really doesn't exist at all. What's not to love about opening up your horizons? Meet all types of people, get caught up in history.....

For many years the Awards show would be watched with me in the mix of girlfriends. Many times we'd rent a hotel room just for the night. The red carpet fashion was a big hit with us. Alas, that tradition has changed a bit. But, on this night, I am thinking of you, my fellow Oscar loving friends! If I could I'd do a little song and dance number, or read the perfect line; I'd take a part from each of my favorite movies and give a heartfelt, soppy, I LOVE & MISS YOU SO!

Yesterday my friend {the one who's been "missing" from my life lately} had a small movie story for me. She had been driven on an outing. When they arrived she was in another city at a movie theater. This is a place in the middle of our two homes where we would meet ONLY to catch a movie. When she got in the theater she realized where she stood and began to cry.....
We will get back to that place and view the big screen sometime soon!

Winning Day

The much maligned Monday - was anything but a sorry day (this week). I had a very self indulgent day...

Went to see this movie ~
WIN WIN

So very glad I chose this indie-type film! Adored it! I will go to see it a second time with my family. Hubby and his Mom will surely love it! Popcorn for lunch. Have I ever mentioned how much I love popcorn?

Thanks to a dear friend I had a certificate to spend on myself.  The appointment was solely for a pedicure. Yet,  I spent three hours soaking, bathing, jaccuzzi-ing, sauna-ing and reading.  A spa day. It was more than a girl could dream possible...... ahhhhhh!

The preparation for upcoming events is under way! Toes must be freshly adorned for festivities.... that is a MUST on any party to-do list!

At the very end of the day I didn't even have to cook dinner. Hubby's family all went out to dinner for a Birthday!  * This is edited to add: I realize on this Tuesday morn, that I even forgot to do my Monday laundry duties! Not too much is chore scheduled 'round here - but Mondays do begin with mundane, unwanted work. I feel as though I won the lottery today!

Can I Get A Witness

Rafters trembled, bodies shook, and there was a rumbling that began very low in register and crescendos to a mighty roar..... NO! not talking about an earthquake!  I'm hoping to give some credit to the outrageously dynamite movie BURLESQUE! I know dynamite seems a bit dated as a verb - but clearly this was an explosion, TNT, fireworks on film. Christina Aguilera's pipes did make the theater rafters move, I swear. The aforementioned shaking was that of some taut, young and enthusiastic dancers. Oh, my!!! My eyes were entranced by the costumery (spell check isn't liking the word costumery) and sets. Cher contributed much to the script; her singing still strong and her person still lovely. I had intended on seeing the movie later this month while in the company of others. Alas, it was a rainy day that lent itself very well to sitting indoors and being entertained. Entertained, I was!
You may want to hurry on down to the cinema and be sure to get a gander at the young male lead. Whoa!! screeching halt!... - when this handsome buck decides to exchange flannel pj's for a box of Famous Amos .... well, can I get a witness?!! really, can I?  let me know if you'll ever think of Famous Amos in the same way again!!  While I adore Stanley Tucci - he is NOT the male lead that I mean, yet he is quite fabulous in his own way.
A Burlesque explosion.. otherwise known as a picture that is blurred and flawed..but still it does look like an explosion. Guess trying to get a shot of the screen isn't so easy when you're trying to be sneaky!
